The Community Enhancement Grant committee is recruiting members to serve the community! Committee members play an important part in helping shape Gresham's neighborhoods.

We are looking for volunteers interested in learning the basics of tool repair and sharpening. WE WILL TRAIN. Work will be on sharpening garden tools, hand saws, and simple edges.

Looking for volunteers experienced in tool sharpening. Skill in accurately honing edges on chisels, mower blades, nippers, and specialized tools to care for donated tools and equipment.

We are looking for talented volunteers to help with tool repair! Replace power cords, inspect motor failures, replace switches or components on donated tools and equipment, making them safe for use by the community.

Together, we have enough (stuff, time, talent, resources!)

Come in regularly (twice a month or more) to help us sort donations, organize inventory, and curate a trauma-informed client shopping experience focused on dignity and autonomy.

The work you do will directly support people and families starting over from adversity as they pick out furniture and household items to set up their new homes.

The Steering Council Secretary will attend Steering Council meetings where they will take minutes. Their responsibilities include posting meeting minutes to Workspace, and, on occasion representing UpRiver Village at resource fairs and other community events. This is a key volunteer position that will contribute to decisions about the organization's policies, procedures, finances and operations.

The Drive Tester will provide on-road driving tests to prospective volunteer drivers. Testing will consist of a ride-along with the volunteer driver applicant for approximately 30 minutes in our service area, and may be through one or more of the following areas: 

The tester will make and record observations of volunteers driving ability using a standardized scoring tool.

UpRiver Village is recruiting volunteers to staff our virtual office from 10am to 2pm, Monday through Friday, starting July 1, 2025. Office volunteers will:

Volunteer Management Assistants will work with others to help deliver on UpRiver Village's mission. Assistants will do one or more of the following tasks: 

Volunteer Assistants should be able to commit to 1-2 hours/week. The positions require an interview and background check.

Volunteer Drivers will drive UpRiver Village members to doctor's appointments, to run errands, to social events, to the airport, etc. Requires a satisfactory background check, valid driver's license, current vehicle registration, current insurance, and satisfactory driving record. Driver will be required to complete a National Safety Council safe driving course (online) and pass an in-person on-road driving test. 

The Outreach Coordinator will oversee and coordinate a small team of volunteers who will initiate contact with individuals or groups serving East County seniors to identify and recruit prospective volunteers, members and referral sources. UpRiver Village volunteers provide an extensive array of volunteer services to our senior members. This support does not include any of the following: direct physical care, financial advice, and recurring routine services.

The Member Management Assistant will oversee the following UpRiver Village processes:

This is an ongoing volunteer position.

The tabling coordinator will identify opportunities for UpRiver Village to table at community events within our four-city service area.  Tasks will include identifying opportunities, registering UpRiver Village to participate, securing volunteers to staff tables and assuring necessary supplies are available.

The Event Planning Assistant is a volunteer position with UpRiver Village. The person in this position will help with organizing social, educational, recreational and cultural events and activities for UpRiver Village senior members and the public.

Orientation is your very first shift -- typically 1-2 hours instead of the standard four hours. During orientation, you will be given a tour, be introduced to staff members, learn about Habitat and store operations, and get instructions on how to sign up for future shifts. We hope you will share your interests and talents with us during this introductory shift so we can help pair you with appropriate tasks and teammates.

Come prepared to be on your feet for the duration of the shift (unless otherwise noted in your profile). Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that are comfortable (most folks wear jeans and a t-shirt/sweatshirt). Please consider weather-appropriate clothing as the temperature in the store may vary greatly depending on the season.

We are currently recruiting 2 to 3 host homes per high school in East Multnomah County for the upcoming 2025-26 school year.

In partnership with local high schools, we aim to connect houseless students with stable housing so they can complete their high school education.

Volunteer hosts can be at any stage of adulthood. As a host, you’ll share part of your home and life with a student—not as a parent, but as a caring adult presence. The onboarding process includes an interview, home visit, background check, and training.

Second Home staff provide ongoing support and coaching for both students and hosts. The school district ensures transportation to and from school, even if students are housed outside their school’s neighborhood boundaries. Many students also participate in the Oregon Health Plan and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Trained mediators facilitate housing agreements between students and hosts, and they can be called upon to renegotiate terms or resolve conflicts during the home-sharing period.

Our program is built on mutual agreement and relationship. After a potential student-host match is identified, both parties have the opportunity to interview each other, check references, and take time to decide if they are a good fit.

Students leave with a rental history, having lived under a formal housing agreement.

Students who participate in our program (or other ODHS-contracted organizations) for at least six months qualify for a tuition and fee waiver at all Oregon state colleges and universities.

This opportunity is for business, school and community groups who want to volunteer together as a team. ReStore group volunteers help staff in all aspects of the store environment

Group shifts for up to 12 volunteers are available Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10am-2pm.

GJG volunteers maintain garden spaces by weeding, pruning, building tasks, transplanting, taking care of the plant material in the shadehouse and greenhouse. We have tasks to fit everyone's desires. Volunteers also help with our cultural events and manage the rentals of the Kyoudou Center.

The spaces we maintain are the Tsuru Island, Ebetsu Plaza, Ambleside Annex, Mural Garden, Peace Tree Garden, and our Pollinator Garden, all inside Main City Park.

Join our dedicated team to help ensure that no senior goes hungry or experiences social isolation. Assist Meals on Wheels People staff with the daily operations of our kitchen and dining room. Your duties will include meal preparation, serving meals, washing dishes, and packing meals for deliveries.

Make a positive impact in your community by delivering a week's worth of nutritious meals to homebound seniors. Your visit will include a wellness-check to ensure their safety and a friendly conversation to brighten their day.
